BAGHDAD:

  • Abu Nuwas street:

    Stretching a long way by the great Tigris, between Jumhuriya bridge and 14th July suspended bridge. The street is famous for its ‘MAZGOUF FISH” served in all casinos alongside the river.
     

  • Abu nuwas boat terminal:
    You can go on trips up and down the Tigris by specially designed boats. The trips start at the boats terminal half-way between the street that leads to the Unknown soldier’s Monument and 14th July suspended bridge. At this terminal, there is an attractive restaurant with two dining halls, one for summer and the other for winter, surrounded by gardens all overlooking the river.
     

  • Zawra park:
     Along Damascus street. A vast 1,200 donum park created by the mayoralty, extremely popular. Special features: Children’s games, a zoo, exhibitions, a tourist’s map, a summer theatre, an open air cinema, sculptures and monuments, fountains, lakes, coffee-shops, restaurants, sandwich kiosks. In the 80s the Olympic swimming pool was attached to the park. In this green and watery spot the Zawra tower has been built, 54 meters high, with a lovely Islamic dome. From the round veranda under the dome a paranoiac view of much of Baghdad will be seen by the visitor, apart from the garden below, as though he were flying over the city. The top of the tower is in three levels: one is for 170 person cafeteria, the other, for 135 person restaurant, and the highest one for the air conditioning and cooling equipment. It has a lift with a capacity of 12 persons.
     

  • Luna Park:
    At the army canal street. The first of its kind in size and variety in the middle east. It is a vast entertainment city created around a large artificial lake, where boats shaped like birds sail at leisure. A place for children, and grown-ups to spend many hours. Coffee and Ice cream shops, restaurants, and sandwich kiosks are everywhere. Also a floating theatre.
     

  • Tjiyat Island:
    A vast island in the middle of the Tigris near Fahama, North of Baghdad, has been turned by Amanat Al Assima (Baghdad municipality) into a veritable pleasure island, with all kinds of entertainment facilities, restaurants, swimming pools, children play-grounds, tennis courts, etc. There is a large artificial lake in it with a tower 60 meters high, from which the delightful views of the island can be seen. The lake serves a sailing club and visitors who may prefer rowing boats, as well as those who want to swim. There are also a night cub, an open air cinema, a multipurpose theatre, and a conference hall. Tajiyat Island is connected to the highway by three bridges, and it has its own network of roads. 500 donums in area, this beautiful spot can cope with no less than 200000 visitors a day.
     

  • A’raas island:
    It was turned by Baghdad municipality into a wedding and weekend resort. It was called the Boars islands (Um Al khanaazeer). A vast island south of the 14th July suspended bridge, with all kind of facilities one needs for his weekend journey.

  • Tourist village of Habaniya:
    It is the largest tourist village of the kind in the middle east. 84 kms, to the west of Baghdad, off the road to Ramadi, it occupies an area of about one square kilometer, and stretches several hundred meters into the lake around which it has been built. The complex is made of:
    a 4-star 6 story hotel with a lounge, a conference hall, suitable also for film shows, 3 restaurants, bars, a summer and winter swimming pool, a library, games room etc. Every floor has 47 double bedrooms and six suites ( making up a total of 600 beds), all centrally air-conditioned with private bathrooms and TV sets. On the top floor there is a night-club. 500 chalets, of which 300 have one double bedroom each, and the rest have two double bedrooms, with bathrooms, kitchen, etc, all air-conditioned in summer and winter and attractively furnished. Two large swimming pools for adults and children, two first class restaurants, a lot of facilities for children play, a youth club, a boating and sailing club, a horse-riding turf, 4 tennis courts, volley ball, archery, and mini golf playgrounds, with a store for lending sports equipment. Also: a supermarket and an open-air theatre and cinema.
    All kinds of other services are available in the village, a pharmacy and dispensary, a nursery, hair-dressing salons, a post office, a bank, close circuit TV, a spacious park for cars, etc. The beautiful Arab tent casino is right on the lake, and gardens and lawns cover two-third of the whole area complete with a flour and plant nursery.
     

  • Haditha Dam:
    The haditha dam on the Euphrates, was made for irrigation and electricity. The vast lake is another tourist attractor.
     

  • Alsudoor irrigation system:
    Where Fishing trips are highly recommended.
     

  • Himreen Dam:
    Another flooded area as a result of the Himreen dam, where you can have a nice weekend camping or fishing trips.
     

  • Water wheels of Baghdadi & Heet:

    You must not miss such a scenery, that occurs once in life time, If you are in Anbar governorate, pay a visit to Baghdadi & Heet and see the water wheels while you enjoy fishing in the Euphrates.
